Welcome to my personal website. I've been working in the field of American Sign Language interpreting since 1996 and I'm honored to continue to work with the Deaf community, Hearing community and the professional interpreting/translation community.
I currently hold BEI Master, Medical and Level IV certification. In 1998, I graduated from Houston Community College’s Interpreter Training Program, then obtained a Bachelor's degree from UH-Victoria and an MBA from Texas Women’s University. I'd have to say my specialty is ASL-to-English interpreting (voicing) and interpreting for platform/lecture events. I have been privileged to gain experience interpreting in the following settings: community/civic meetings, post-secondary education, theatrical events, medical, business/accounting/finance, quasi-legal, and psychological/counseling sessions.
From 2007-2017, I served as a member of and eventually as the Chair on the State BEI Advisory Board which advises the State regarding the application of rules, policies and procedures as they relate to certified sign language interpreters, and evaluates and certifies interpreters to work in the State of Texas. As of 2018, the University of Houston is in the process of approving my IRB application to conduct research regarding the impact of African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) on the work of ASL interpreters. This research is required for the completion of a doctorate degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham, England.
